Cloth tape is a heavy-duty tape that comes in various widths, lengths, and adhesive strengths. It sometimes comes coated (not recommended for dance). Used for flooring and general applications. Gaffer’s tape is a 2” wide cloth tape designed for use in the theater for applications related to lighting. It is also used for taping floors. Because of its adhesive strength, it can leave an excess of residue which will have to be removed prior to re-taping. Vinyl tape is used for tapping floors. Its smooth surface, made from the same material as the flooring, is preferred for relatively short term applications (1 day to 4 months) before having to be replaced. It costs significantly less than cloth or Gaffer’s tape.
