Dance Subfloors
A floating wood subfloor acts as a barrier between the concrete foundation and other hard surfaces. It is critically important for the safety of dancers and should be utilized in professional studios, performing arts centers, university dance settings and in any home environment where serious dancers work consistently.
The subfloor solutions from Stagestep™ are made for all movement activities, creating an environment that is safe and shock-absorbent.
Important factors determining the perfect subfloor are safety and performance. Stagestep meets these two factors in each of our floating subfloors by ensuring proper absorption of impact, safe return of energy, lateral food support as well as a quality design for stellar performance.

Stagestep has several dance subfloor options suited to different dance styles:

FAQ About Our Sprung Subfloor
For more information about our sprung floor solutions, read through our frequently asked questions about these systems.
What Is the Purpose of the Subfloor for Dance Studios?
A dance subfloor is a layer beneath the top flooring that cushions the dancer’s movements to minimize the impact. Dancing involves dramatic movements, such as jumping, where the dancer must shift their weight. Since some dance styles require shoes with minimal cushion, the impact from this motion will affect the dancer’s lower limbs and joints over time. A sprung subfloor from Stagestep has the right amount of cushion because it distributes the impact laterally, resulting in a soft landing that offers support and keeps dancers safe.
Which Sprung Floor Solution From Stagestep Is the Best?
There are many factors to consider when deciding which sprung subfloor is best for you:
- Resilient energy
- Absorption of energy
- Non-slip surface
- Lateral foot support
- Dance type
Based on these qualities about your dancing style requirements, you can find your best subfloor. All subfloor solutions at Stagestep are made with quality craftsmanship and are durable for any movement activity. Many subfloor systems last for several years since the dance floor surface protects them.
How Do You Install a Dance Subfloor?
Your dance floor’s performance relies on the quality of the installation of your subfloor, so your sprung floor system must be installed correctly. Your Stagestep subfloor should be smooth, flat and free of foreign materials. Each subfloor requires certain materials for installation, such as plywood, foam cubes, wood deck screws and cement nails. You can install your sprung subfloor in a matter of hours with assistance from our installation guide and customer support, or you can work with our preferred installation team.
